Maldives Dictator Slaps Tsunami Victims in the face

Thousands of Tsunami 2004 victims remain homeless but the tsunami monument is built on time. December 2004 Tsunami was a biggest natural disaster to hit the Maldives in living memory. More than 100 people lost their lives and over 28,000 were left homeless. Maldives’ population is just over 300,000 hence this was a large percentage. Some islands had to be abandoned completely, such as R. Kandholhudhoo. In terms of damage to infrastructure, the cost of the tsunami ran into hundreds of millions, and in comparison to other nations in the region, Maldives suffered the worst economic damage. Despite the fact that millions were pledged in donation, thousands of Maldivias are still homeless and living in temporary accommodations, resulting is several social and psychological problems for them. However, in typical fashion, the Maldives Dictator disregarded their plight and went about building a monument in Male’ costing several hundred thousand dollars. The following pictures is a timeline of this project, which is a slap on the face for those who remain homeless today.
