President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has met the Chief Executive Officer and the General Manager of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of Private Sector (ICD), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Dr. Ali Soliman yesterday.
Doctor Ali Soliman had been the first foreign consultant to have served as an Economic Advisor in Maldives from 1979 to 1981.
The President expressed the need to have an Islamic bank in the Maldives and said that the government had been working on undertaking such an initiative for some time.
The Minister of Finance and Treasury Qasim Ibrahim, Minister for Presidential Affairs Mohamed Hussain, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the First Dawood Islamic Bank Ltd Rafique Dawood, Chief Executive Officer and President of the First Dawood Islamic Bank Ltd Niklaus Shwarz, Chief Executive Officer of Dawood Capital Management Ltd T. Uzra Dawood and Executive Director at the President’s Office Doctor Moosa Fathee also attended the meeting.
